Meet Craig M. Greenway
SUCCESS IS DEFINED BY THE CLIENT Craig Greenway’s objectives are defined by how his clients define success. Craig’s move from the “predominately reactive world of public accounting” to financial planning was driven by his desire to serve people in a proactive environment. He gains true satisfaction from watching others grow, especially witnessing the younger generation of firm leaders evolve. In 2005, Craig remembers speaking with one of the other partners about the firm’s growth and future. “It’s not about us anymore. Now we have responsibility to others in the firm.”
THE STORY OF THE STARFISH Craig identifies perspective as something for which he is extremely grateful; he believes that without perspective you cannot understand or care about others in the world. Craig tells the story of the starfish. A father and son were walking along the beach. They came across hundreds of starfish washed up on the sand. The father picks up a starfish and tosses it back into the ocean. The son wonders why the father would bother as he couldn’t save them all. “Does what you’re doing really matter?” the son said. As the father tosses another one back into the water he said, “It matters to this one.”
IT’S A HUMAN PROCESS, NOT JUST A FINANCIAL PROCESS What sets Craig apart is his commitment to listening to his clients. Keeping the lines of communication open can help him better guide families to reach their financial goals. Over 35 plus years of experience have helped him cultivate a vast array of professionals to call on, from estate planning attorneys to insurance agents, so that he can ensure his clients have access to all the resources they need to lead financially successful lives.
BALANCING DOWN TIME AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Giving back to his community is important to Craig. He has served on numerous civic, charitable, and religious boards and councils. However, Craig has worked hard to get to this stage of life and also appreciates getting away. He often escapes to his second home in the Texas Hill Country with his wife Pam and, when their schedule allows, their grown children Drew and Megan. The Hill Country is slow-paced, and Craig finds the country chores to be therapeutic. Craig recalls that not too long after he purchased the property, his other directors wondered why someone would enjoy these chores. So, he invited them for a weekend consisting of power tools, chain saws, burn piles, and after working up a sweat, floating in the creek to cool off. After that weekend, they understood. It’s affectionately referred to as “Man Camp.”
